Perth Vet Emergency (PVE) is one of Australia’s leading emergency and critical care referral specialist centres that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all year round. We deliver world class emergency veterinary medicine and gold standard patient care. We are always bustling with exciting cases and an energetic atmosphere. The hospital is equipped with a full in-house laboratory including blood gas analysis, digital X-Ray, ultrasound, endoscopy and lots more.

Training and Development

You will have a team of trainers who will support you through your development into our “hospital nurse” role. You will receive on the floor training, including “buddy” shifts with your trainers. Webinars and online resources will also be prescribed to enhance any areas where you need additional training and support. You will have total access to our monthly in-house CPD, an online database with training modules and webinars, and enrolment in the Elevate Emergency Nursing program to help solidify your skills and knowledge as an emergency and critical care veterinary nurse. Your development program also includes access to trained Mental Health First Aid Officers and an Employee Assistance Program for support on a range of matters.

Given the unplanned nature of emergency and critical care cases, our Nursing team are highly trained to manage a variety of situations with varying complexity. This includes severe trauma, complex medical and surgical cases, and mechanical ventilation. We deliver high quality training through structured induction programs, mentoring, regular Nurse team-based training, case studies and intensive care development programs.

PVE Nursing team members also have the support of a dedicated client care team to primarily liaise with our clients so you can focus on enriching our patient’s treatment and experience with us. The successful candidate will possess:

  • Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, or Bachelor of Veterinary Technology.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of Emergency and Critical Care nursing experience OR 3-4 years’ experience in general nursing.
  • A passion for providing excellent patient care and a drive for continuing education.
  • Outstanding relationship building skills and communication skills.
  • Excellent written and oral skills.
  • The ability to participate in a roster spanning across week nights, days, early mornings, weekends and public holidays.
